As you know, I’ve been working diligently to respond to the avalanche of feedback from the launch of the refreshed Warhorn look a couple months back. One of the most frequent complaints was that the new color palette was too bright for some and made their eyes bleed.
If you can’t read Warhorn, it’s not very useful to you. So, we toiled away in the lab for the last few weeks to come up with a solution: dark mode!
Dark mode uses a darker color palette, reducing eye strain and making colors pop really nicely. You’ll need fewer eye drops and will sleep better at night.
You can enable dark mode on the new Settings > Appearance page:
There are a few more tweaks to make to certain sections of the site to work better in dark mode, and we’ll make those over time. In particular, venue maps and the rich text editor for event details need some additional elbow grease. If you see any other areas that could be improved, please do let me know in the comments here or by emailing info@warhorn.net.
Huge props to long-time Warhorn friend and contributor Zach Hoon for implementing the lion’s share of dark mode. Couldn’t have done it without you, buddy!
Oh, this is AMAZING! Thank you so much!
My pleasure!
Just found out about it tonight! Love it!
In general very nice, however, the dark blue on black – particularly at the top of the screen – is hard to see. I’d recommend a brighter color, though not necessarily white, instead.
Thanks, Joel. I made a few tweaks to change color contrast in dark mode a couple weeks ago. Are you still finding the blue troublesome? If so, could you email me some screenshots of specific problem areas?
